Fire is a beautiful little black cat. True to the myth, tragedy crossed her path.
One day in 2013 an hysterical citizen contacted us to report that a small black injured kitten was hiding under her house. The woman was so distraught that it was difficult to determine exactly what injuries were involved. One thing was not in question. The kitten was suffering.
As soon as we laid eyes on this precious baby, our worst nightmares jumped to life. This beautiful, innocent little animal had been burned. And there was no question from the extent of the injuries – it was intentional.
We rushed the baby to the vet. Minutes passed like hours as we waited for the verdict. Would she survive?
Life was a nightmare until the doctor emerged – her face gloomy and dark. We had prayed for a miracle. Had this precious animal been taken from us forever?
The burns were more severe than we had imagined. She had suffered to her bones. We stared at each other in horror, thinking only of her face. That sweet innocent face … the huge green eyes begging for help … the desperate strokes of the tiny pink tongue … love me and I will love you.
Time stood still. How could anyone do this?
And then we had our miracle. “We can save her. It will take time. She will need round the clock attention. She will lose her tail. But we can save her.”
And so it would be. We did it. We saved her. And we named her Fire … for her relentless, burning passion to survive.
Months later Fire – now Baby – was adopted by her furever family. She endured surgeries and rehabilitation and horrendous trauma. Today she is adored, loved, and the center of her family.
Indeed … you are adored and loved our precious Fire. Your strength humbles us. Your spirit inspires us.
You will remain in our hearts furever.
Can you help us save others?
